Fremont District 79 students in grades 1 – 8 will have anytime/anywhere web access to their textbooks along with a wide range of resources and activities.

Students in grades K – 5 use the Teacher Curriculum Institute Program: Social Studies and History Alive. The TCI approach recognizes that every student is unique and that all students benefit from learning in multiple ways.

Students in grades 6 – 8 use the McGraw Hill/Glencoe use Journey Across Time and the two-year American Journey program for social studies. The 7th and 8th grade program creates a seamless two-year scope and sequence for middle school by pairing this program with The American Journey Early Years.

Kindergarten: Social Studies Alive! Me and My World explores the relationships in students’ lives with their families, friends, teachers, and neighbors. Students explore ways to get along with others and how to solve problems. They learn that people live differently in different places and that they can help care for the world.

1st Grade: Social Studies Alive! My School and Family introduces the structures of schools and families. Students learn how to get along with classmates, follow school rules, and identify people who work at a school. They learn about family traditions and the ways in which family members interact and change.

2nd Grade: Social Studies Alive! My Community teaches students the basics of geography, economics, and citizenship in the context of learning about their local community. Readings are reinforced by activities that develop a wide range of skills.

3rd Grade: Social Studies Alive! Our Community and Beyond broadens students’ awareness about the local and global communities in which they live. They learn the basics of geography in order to locate communities on a globe. They learn about different cultures and public service roles.

4th Grade: Social Studies Alive! Regions of Our Country presents five regions of the United States through the lens of four social sciences—economics, geography, political science, and history. Students learn to think like social scientists as they “tour” the regions, investigating the features that make the regions distinct and the characteristics that unite them.

5th Grade: Social Studies Alive! America’s Past covers American history from the first migrations into the Americas through the 20th century. Intense interaction with the personalities, places, and events that structured our nation leads students to be both keen observers of and informed participants in U.S. history.

6th Grade: The Early Ages is a middle school world history program organized chronologically from the first humans and ancient civilizations to the present. The Early Ages' engaging narrative and outstanding visuals transport students back in time.

7th Grade: The American Journey Early Years immerses middle school students in the rich early history of their country. The program includes the finest scholarship and the most up-to-date maps from the world-renowned National Geographic.

8th Grade: The American Journey Modern Times is the last half of The American Journey and begins in 1858 (Unit 6). A two-chapter Prologue reviews history from pre-exploration to Reconstruction. The Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and the Citizenship Handbook are also included.
