On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to welcome you to our website for Fremont School District 79! The district website has been updated to provide more information and resources for our school community.
Our educational program includes instruction in all core academic areas as well as art, band, library/technology, and physical education. Additional services are provided to eligible students through the ESL/bilingual education programs, reading and mathematics support, special education, social work, speech and language and occupational/physical therapy, and the district’s annual summer school program. Enrichment programs are in place for students in grades K-8. There are a variety of extracurricular programs, clubs, and special events in place to engage students and to support the overall mission of our school district where we: Prepare today’s children for tomorrow’s world.
The following are important school district initiatives for the 2011-2012 school year:
Introduce the newly adopted social studies curriculum to our students in kindergarten through grade eight.
Implement a curriculum review and study of our social emotional learning standards.
Provide training for our administrators, teachers, and staff on the newly adopted Common Core Learning Standards. These new standards were developed by a national consortium of states, including Illinois, and they will replace the Illinois Learning Standards for state curriculum and assessment purposes.
Continue to support and refine the Response to Intervention (RtI) model for student intervention services at all grade levels. RtI is both a state and federal mandate that requires all public schools to develop uniform assessment models, data systems and intervention programs to support students at all academic learning levels.
During the next several months, our Fremont community will come together to begin the important process of outlining our long-term strategic planning document. This living document will review our Community’s core beliefs and values as well as outline our short-term goals for the coming years.
I encourage you to visit our schools and see firsthand the programs and opportunities that are offered to the children in our school district. If you have a question, suggestion or concern related to the school district’s instructional program, school facilities, lunch program, transportation services, finances/budget, or school policies and operations, please contact my office at your earliest convenience, (847) 566-0169, ext. 1260 or jgildea@fsd79.org.
