Fremont School District 79 is entering a period of ongoing student growth driven by several new residential developments that are expected to generate a significant number of K-8 students (currently estimated at 1,100).

Our values in monitoring this growth include:

Proactive planning so we maintain our educational priorities and prevent an unfair financial burden on our current taxpayers;
Enrollment monitoring and forecasting;
Advocating for fair impact fees from developers;
Ongoing review of our facilities with an eye toward the future; and

Proposed Data Center in Grayslake

Fremont School District 79 is aware of the T5 data center that is proposed to be built in Grayslake and would fall entirely within our school district boundaries. Following preliminary discussions initiated by municipal leadership in mid-July regarding the project, District administration has engaged in proactive coordination with neighboring high school districts (Mundelein High School District 120 and Grayslake Community High School District 127), financial advisory consultants, legal counsel, legislators, developers, and municipal leaders.

District 79 leadership recognizes that a commercial proposal of this magnitude raises significant questions among our residents regarding environmental footprint, local infrastructure, power and water demands, and overall land use. We hear and share many of the same foundational questions currently emerging across our community.

Litigation Regarding Inadequate Impact Fees

On February 23, 2026, Fremont School District 79 and Mundelein High School District 120 jointly filed a lawsuit in the Lake County Circuit Court against the Village of Mundelein regarding inadequate impact fees for the forthcoming Walnut Ridge development as well as the adjacent 165-acre "Agricultural Property."
