Fremont School District 79, in response to the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA, Public Law 99-519, complies with all Federal and State asbestos regulations. This act requires all public and private elementary and secondary schools to inspect for friable and non-friable asbestos, develop a Asbestos Management plan that addresses asbestos hazards in school buildings, and implement response actions in a timely fashion. Fremont School District 79 completed, and will continue with, asbestos inspections, along with scheduled surveillance of its facilities.

Fremont School District 79 tests indoor air quality in each education facility every three years. FSD79 contracts an Illinois licensed air sampling professional to conduct a limited air fungal air test to be compared with previous baseline air testing results.

In accordance with Illinois State Law, Fremont School District 79 notifies our parents of upcoming weed control and fertilization applications. Flags are also installed immediately near all application sites. Weed and fertilizer applications to District lawn areas are only applied on Friday afternoons after student dismissal, on weekends, or breaks in the school schedule, by a licensed applicator/contractor.

Fremont School District 79 is committed to reducing pesticide use while maintaining a pest-free environment within its schools. FSD79’s integrated pest management procedures eliminate regular pesticide applications and combines several strategies to achieve long-term solutions. The District focus is to identify and eliminate conditions inside and outside of the facility that could cause pest problems. Non-chemical devices are used to help monitor for and control pests. As a last resort, applications of least hazardous materials may be used to eliminate a pest problem in the safest manner possible.

Fremont School District manages four private wells to supply five district facilities with potable water. FSD79 proactively tests the quality of this water supply in accordance with all regulations. As it has done for many years, FSD79 continues to contract with an independent lab to conduct water testing in accordance with Illinois Department of Public Health and Lake County Department of Community Health guidelines. Samples are analyzed for the presence of inorganic compounds, synthetic organic compounds, volatile compounds, lead, copper, and arsenic.
