FSD79 Accepting Resumes for Board of Education Vacancy

Fremont School District 79 is accepting resumes to fill the vacancy resulting from Mr. Michael Jandes’s resignation. Mr. Jandes announced his resignation from the FSD79 Board due to personal commitments. Mr. Jandes has served on the Board since 2013, providing invaluable service to the students, families, and community of Fremont. The Board appreciates his commitment to our district over the past 13 years, and we thank him for his service. 

The individual selected to fill the vacancy will serve on the School Board from the date of appointment through April 2027. 

Appointment Process:
The Board of Education shall follow the procedures prescribed by law in filling the vacancy, including but not limited to the following:

1. Solicitation of Candidates
2. The Board of Education is accepting letters of interest and resumes from qualified residents of Fremont School District 79.
3. Review the Applications
4. The Board shall review all submitted materials to determine whether applicants meet the qualifications and eligibility requirements set forth in the Illinois School Code.
5. Interviews
6. The Board may interview one or more qualified candidates. Interviews may be conducted in closed session in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.
7. Appointment
8. The appointment shall be made by a majority vote of the Board of Education at an open public meeting. The Board anticipates making the appointment within 60 days of the vacancy.

Deadline for Submission
All letters of interest and resumes must be received by the District no later than 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30. Materials received after the stated deadline may not be considered.

Qualifications
To be eligible for appointment to the Board of Education, an individual must meet the qualifications set forth in the Illinois School Code, including that the individual:

• Is a citizen of the United States.
• Is at least 18 years of age.
• Is a registered voter.
• Has been a resident of the State of Illinois and Fremont School District 79 for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment.
• Is not a child sex offender, as defined by law.
• Does not hold an incompatible public office and does not have prohibited conflicting employment.

Applicants should demonstrate familiarity with the Board’s policies on its general duties and responsibilities, including fiduciary responsibilities, conflicts of interest, ethics, and the gift ban.
