Blast Off Day

Third-grade students in Fremont Intermediate School have been creating rocket launchers out of cereal boxes, solar systems out of Pringles cans, and phases of the moon using other household products.

It was done on "Blast Off Day" where students were studying the Earth, sun, moon, and the solar system.

"Blast Off Day is the culminating activity of this unit of study," said teacher Carolyn Burno. It is an afternoon packed with activities in which students make telescopes, constellations, blast rockets into 'space', and make astronaut backpacks.
