FSD79 Earns Meritorious Budget Award for 13th Straight Year
April 21, 2023
MUNDELEIN, Ill. -- Fremont School District 79 has been recognized by the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) for excellence in budget presentation with the Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for fiscal year 2022-2023. This is the 13th consecutive year that FSD79 has received the award.
The recognition reflects the commitment of Fremont School District 79 in achieving the highest standards of budgeting. The Meritorious Budget Award designation is the result of an objective external evaluation of the overall management and communication of the school district's budget.
“Fremont School District 79 is honored to once again be named a recipient of the Meritorious Budget Award,” said FSD79 Superintendent of Schools Dr. Trisha Kocanda. “As a District, we remain committed to implementing high-quality standards for fiscal practices. This award is a well-deserved representation of the hard work and commitment of our Business Office.”
Participants submit their applications and budget documents to a panel of school financial professionals who review the materials for compliance with the MBA Criteria Checklist and other requirements and provide expert feedback that districts can use to improve their budget documents. Districts that meet the stringent program requirements may earn either the MBA or Pathway to the MBA, an introductory program that allows districts to ease into full MBA compliance.
“ASBO International’s MBA program provides school districts with tools and resources to develop a high-quality, easy-to-understand budget to share the district’s goals and objectives internally and with the community,” ASBO International COO/Interim Executive Director Siobhán McMahon explains. “By participating in the programs, districts demonstrate their commitment to upholding nationally recognized budget presentation standards.”
