Students get loud and move wildly while exercising in teacher Lori Northup's Healthy Minds classes at Fremont Elementary School. Ms. Northup uses stability balls and drumsticks, pumps up the music, and students dance to the beat of their own drumming.
Like aerobic exercise, drumming increases heart rate and blood flow while simultaneously engaging both hemispheres of the brain. Improved IQ scores, decreased cortisol and enhanced brain activity are just a few of the benefits students enjoy from drumming.
